Getting Started

This guide is comprised of both library and Internet resources recommended for finding information you will need for Business Foundations Seminar. Here you will find links to resources covering research articles, company data, and financial information.

Choosing a Company

For this class, you or your group will be asked to choose a company and provide accurate and detailed information regarding this company.  A few points of note:

  • Choose a PUBLIC company, specifically one that is traded on either the NYSE or the Nasdaq.  If you choose a private company, financial information will be difficult to find as they are not required to report data to the Securities and Exchance Commission (SEC).
  • Choose a company that interests you.  Look at the NAICS codes (website)and find a company based on an industry of interest.
  • Choose a company that has a history.  If the company was started > 1 year ago, chances are there is no financial data available, you cannot compare that company with competitors, and you will not find any research articles on that company.
